Attles is now going on six decades of being a Warriors professional

On the floor, Attles had a similar approach to current Warriors coach Steve Kerr, allowing his players a measure of decision-making freedom. They would work out their defensive assignments. When Barry returned to the Warriors in 1972 after playing in the ABA, he would often serve as a coach on the floor, calling plays during timeouts.

There is no doubt he was in charge, but there was not a territorial aspect about it, Barnett said. Players had input. He expected you to be professional, and we were professional.

Attles is now going on six decades of being a Warriors professional, enjoying the team’s resurgence as much as anyone. When Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle, the president of the NBCA, pointed out to Attles just how long he’s been around the franchise, he smiled.

Green was suspended for Game 5 last year, and Kerr quipped he doesn’t expect Green to get suspended for Game 5 this year.

Friday’s game had seven technical fouls, 51 fouls called that resulted in 67 free-throw attempts, and several reviews that resulted in a game that took over three hours to complete.

The game of baskeball created trash talk. You can take away the physical part of the game, but emotionally, that should be us, the players, Durant said of the sometimes overzealous officiating. That’s part of the game. Emotions are what keep the game alive.

Stephen Curry said the Cavaliers got the bulk of the calls because they were the aggresor and the aggressor usually gets the calls by setting the tone of the game.

Despite several bad calls, Kerr did not blame the loss on the officiating — saying the Cavaliers started hot and handed it to them with a tremendous game.

While the officiating was often one-sided in the Cavaliers favor, the Warriors did get their share of beneficial questionable calls. Cavs coach Tyronn Lue was asked about the inconsistent officiating, but couldn’t take the bait following a win.

The Packers injuries have forced undrafted rookies Kentrell Brice and Josh Hawkins into action.

Hawkins, a 5-10 corner from East Carolina who has primarily played special teams this season, was beaten by Cowboys receiver Terrance Williams for a 24-yard gain with 1:33 remaining as the Cowboys drove for a game-tying field goal.

Hawkins gave Williams a huge cushion and kept backpedaling to give Prescott plenty of room to complete the pass over the middle.

Brice, a 5-11 safety out of Louisiana Tech, actually played well in Burnetts absence. He had a team-high six tackles with a pass breakup. He leveled Cole Beasley after the Cowboys receiver beat Randall for an 18-yard gain.

The game had the feel of a great Super Bowl, and Fox can only hope Super Bowl 51 produces as much TV drama on Feb. 5.

As ESPN’s Mike Greenberg put it during Mike & Mike on Monday morning, Now that was more like it. After a largely lousy season, a boring wild-card weekend and an uninspiring Saturday, yesterday the NFL brought the goods.

Including a game in Dallas we’ll be talking about for years.

And the Tony Romo subplot only added spice to the drama. At one point Sunday, the Cowboys’ starter-turned-backup QB was the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter.

After Aaron Rodgers led the Packers to an early 21-3 lead, Fox’s Troy Aikman finally uttered the dreaded four-letter word on the air.

As they head go into the second half, theres no question that Romo gives them the opportunity for more big plays, Aikman said.

Turkey issues warrant for Enes Kanter’s arrest, report says

The international intrigue surrounding Thunder center Enes Kanter, detained for a time last weekend at a Romanian airport, deepened Friday as Turkey issued a warrant for his arrest, accusing him of being a member of a terror group, a pro-government newspaper reported (via AFP).

Watching the play, you might come away with the reasonable excuse that he was just making an odd motion as a result of the play. And that’s probably the case. But Speights wants to know why James isn’t getting the same kind of scrutiny Draymond Green faced last year for a similar move.

LeBron kicks Iguodala in the nuts, Speights wrote on Twitter. If this was somebody on the Warriors doing this lol you know the rest smh. I see nobody talking about this.

Speights has an argument, but there’s a logical reason why James isn’t getting the same criticism. Green was a perpetual groin-kicker in last year’s playoffs, leading to plenty of technicals and flagrants, the latter of which ended with a suspension.

As far as we can tell, this is an isolated incident for James. If he had a history of kicking people like Green, then you’d certainly see more people making this into something. But as it stands, only Speights appears to be upset.

NBA free agency rumors: Chris Bosh’s comeback questioned

Andrew Whitworth Elite Jersey
NBA teams are skeptical about Chris Bosh’s comeback from blood-clot problems, according to a report on that cites two unidentified Western Conference executives.

Bosh, 33, and the Heat reportedly have reached a tentative agreement to part ways, pending finalization in the coming weeks.
Lavelle Hawkins Elite Jersey
But just because he appears headed to free agency doesn’t mean he’ll draw the offers he would’ve had he not experienced his problems with blood clots.

I have the impression that I will back even stronger than before! I know, it feels strange to say that but in my whole career, I never took six months to do bodybuilding only. I’m going to work out like a mad man and come back stronger than ever. Some people are saying that I will never come back, I’m not listening to them, I know how I want to end my career. I have a new status in the team, I’m more in the team management and leadership and I like it. I know that one time I will come back from the bench like Tim [Duncan] or Manu [Ginobili]. But I will always have an important role to play.

The veteran appears to accept the fact he will likely be retained as a reserve player. There’s been rising speculation lately that San Antonio will target Clippers point guard Chris Paul in free agency, and if that happens then Parker will definitely be in a backup role.

But at this stage in his career, that’s not a bad thing. While he’s not the player he once was, Parker still has value, as he proved in Game 6 against the Grizzlies when he went 11 of 14 from the floor to finish with 27 points.

Parker will forever be remembered as a catalyst in the Spurs’ dynasty days and even if he’s not starting games in 2017-18, he has enough experience to be a team leader and make an impact in other ways.

Steelers can’t take next step until Le’Veon Bell really becomes ‘The Man’

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. At his best, we know what Le’Veon Bell is. It was obvious last week in Kansas City, where he sidestepped and prodded his way through the Chiefs’ defense repeatedly, gaining 170 yards and breaking the Steelers’ team record for playoff yardage after having set that record with 167 yards the previous week. Hand the guy a football, as the Steelers did 59 times in their first two playoff games, and he can put forth something spectacular.

But then, a night like Sunday at Gillette Stadium happens, and with it comes a sharp reminder that, at 24, Bell is still a mystery, a great player who somehow seems to find his way to frustration. That was the case against New England, where the Steelers suffered a 36-17 loss to the Patriots in the AFC championship.

With a trip to the Super Bowl on the line, Bell had no impact. He hurt his groin on the second play of the game, he said, an injury that limited him to six carries and 20 yards. But then he also said he has been dealing with a minor groin injury for a while.

When the Raiders and Texans played in November in Mexico City, Osweiler was 26 of 39 for 243 yards and a touchdown with one interception.

He missed an open Will Fuller over the middle, instead throwing it to tight end Ryan Griffin. Raiders linebacker Malcolm Smith had tight coverage and picked off Osweilers throw.

Osweiler did a much better job of finding the open receiver on his lone touchdown pass. He ripped a bullet to Braxton Miller, who put a great move on David Amerson to get open for the 12-yard score.

Trivia time: The Texans are the first team since the 1998 Dolphins to host a playoff game in the stadium that will have the Super Bowl.

If the Texans are going to get to vikings_116Super Bowl LI, then Osweiler can’t make mistakes and the defense will have to lead the way.

Michael Floyd discusses lifestyle changes since joining Patriots

Michael Floyd went from counting his free agency dollars to getting waived due to a December DUI arrest. Fortunately for him, the former Cardinals wideout received a second chance with the Patriots, and now he’s going to giant lengths to stay out of the spotlight.

In an interview with The Boston Globe, Floyd said he’s been living in a hotel, eating most of his meals and spending his time at the Patriots’ facility.

In that first series back a Wrigley, Fowler’s smile, the one Almora calls the best in baseball, was ever-present despite his early-season slump. He joked with teammates and clubhouse attendants, graciously answered questions from media, and spent time signing autographs for Cubs and Cardinals fans.

That’s it for the first round, folks. So much fun. Now we know where the next generation of MLB stars will start their professional careers (well, some of that next generation, anyway). We’ll keep updating the second round, pick by pick, right here.

Youth Tani Tupou Jersey Hey, remember when the Tigers took Florida right-hander Alex Faedo with the No. 18 pick Well, he just punched the Gators’ ticket to Omaha and the College World Series. He came on in relief in UF’s Super Regional game against Wake Forest on Monday night, after pitching four innings on Saturday, and recorded the final six outs in the Gators’ 3-0 victory.

The Rangers have two picks, too, this one and then a couple later, at 29, as compensation for losing Ian Desmond (that one-year FA deal worked out very well for them, eh ). The Rangers have had 14 first-round (and supplemental) picks since 2010, and they’ve used 10 of those picks on high school players, which makes Lutz, a prep outfielder from Arlington, an easy pick to drop in this spot.

Both Manning and Brady are far closer to the end than the beginning now.

Yet he’s also the same quarterback we last saw getting strip-sacked in Lambeau Field last month, and watching with all his teammates as the ball floundered about on the frozen tundra until the Packers’ Clay Matthews bowled one of them over and dove on it.

Manning’s turnovers were never dull or uneventful, and there are mountains of examples to prove it, in the regular season and postseason.

But there is just one in his two Super Bowls combined, 42 or 46. He has more combined breathtaking, history-making throws, to David Tyree and Mario Manningham.

Both Manning and Brady are far closer to the end than the beginning now. Brady’s latest Super Bowl trip ended the way the world saw it end — leading the biggest comeback in the game’s history, against the MVP, against one of the 10 highest-scoring teams of all time, after throwing the only postseason pick-six of his life, winning at age 39, leaving all but a couple of quarterbacks in his rear-view in the ring-collecting race.

“It’s funny you know, not knowing Eli and being on the team and seeing that whole drama play out, I remember showing up and there some people that kind of thought, ‘Boy, who is this bratty kid that’s trying to call his own shot and say, oh I don’t want to play for that team?’ But I really think it was less Eli and more his agent and probably his dad saying, ‘Hey, look, we want what’s best for him long term.'”

This would make sense, as Manning doesn’t seem like the type of person who would be calling the shots like this. But then again, he did look pretty miserable up on the stage holding up the Chargers jersey with his name on it.

He looked uncomfortable in the pocket and took two sacks.

Before the second half against the Falcons, Brady was looking like more a goat than the GOAT. While his QB counterpart Matt Ryan literally was flawless — a perfect 158.3 passer rating — as Atlanta built a 21-3 halftime lead, Brady was terrible.

He looked uncomfortable in the pocket and took two sacks. He misfired when throwing to open guys in going 16 of 26 for 184 yards. His rating was a Brock Osweiler-in-Houston-like 66.8. Then Brady did something he had never done and threw a pick six in the playoffs.
Michael Wilhoite Elite Jersey
Every other QB would have been dead and buried in that situation. Think of Peyton Manning vs. the Saints and Seahawks, or Brett Favre vs. the Broncos. Or Cam Newton last year when he couldn’t shed Von Miller. The Falcons’ defense was flying around, owning him.
Len Dawson Elite Jersey
Instead, Brady was relentless with his passing volume. He went into his patented, spread-the-field, dink-and-dunk mode and did not force the issue in the second half. He ramped it up with 22 completions on 30 more attempts. He actually took three more sacks and didn’t push the ball downfield as much.

But, as always, he did whatever was necessary to get the win.

David Steele (straight-up pick): It has been repeated often that in previous Super showdowns between the No 1 offense and the No. 1 defense, defense usually wins. That would be the Patriots’ defense against the offense tied for the eighth highest-scoring ever.

But as smart, resourceful and well-coached as that defense is, they haven’t seen anything close to what Ryan, Julio Jones, the two-headed backfield monster of Tevin Coleman and Devonte Freeman, the deceptively deep well of receiving weapons, and an underrated line can do.
